Rent a kayak in Kristiansand

Kayaking at Lake Gillsvannet is one of the safest and most enjoyable ways to experience nature in Kristiansand. This calm freshwater lake, surrounded by forest and walking trails, offers an ideal setting for a relaxing day on the water – whether you are paddling for the first time or simply looking for a peaceful outdoor activity.

Kayak rental at Gillsvannet is well suited for families, couples and small groups who want a fun, low-stress experience close to the city.

Simple and flexible kayak rental

We make it easy for you to enjoy a day of kayaking. Kayaks can be rented from 500 NOK per day, and the price includes all necessary equipment, such as a paddle and a life vest. You do not need to bring any gear of your own.

The rental period runs from 08:00 to 20:00, giving you plenty of flexibility. You decide how long you want to paddle – the price is the same whether you are on the water for one hour or the entire day.

Multi-day rentals are also available by prior arrangement. You will need kayaking experience to rent for multi-day or to bring the kayak to other locations than Gillsvannet (for safety reasons).

All rentals must be arranged in advance, as the location is not staffed throughout the day.

We do not rent out kayaks for paddling in the city centre of Kristiansand unless you hold a valid Våttkort (paddling certificate) or have extensive kayaking experience. This area is busy with ferries, cruise ships and fast motorboats, and conditions often include both currents and waves. For safety reasons, we therefore only offer kayak rental in calmer and more protected waters.

Why Gillsvannet is ideal for kayaking

Gillsvannet is a small, sheltered lake east of Kristiansand city centre. The water is calm, with no current and no boat traffic, making it an excellent choice for beginners and families with children. Several areas of the lake are shallow, adding an extra sense of safety for those new to kayaking.

During summer, the water often warms up nicely, and the lake offers small beaches, jetties and even a couple of small islands that can be explored by kayak. It is easy to take breaks along the shore, go for a swim, or simply enjoy the quiet surroundings.

This makes Gillsvannet a perfect place for a relaxed family outing, where both adults and children can enjoy being on the water together.
